Marcus Buser

Marcus Buser is a performing and teaching artist specializing in acoustic upright bass, electric bass, guitar, and songwriting. Growing up in a musical family, Marcus’ entire life has been intertwined with music. Marcus began performing with his father at the age of four in churches and concert halls, singing and later picking up guitar at the age of 8 and then upright bass at the age of 13. Marcus received his Bachelors of Fine Arts in Jazz Bass from California Institute of the Arts (CalArts). At CalArts Marcus had the honor of studying under world renowned jazz musicians Charlie Haden, Darek Oles, Joe LaBarbera, and Larry Koonse. He has also studied classical contrabass with Peter Rofe of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, and participated in the CalArts orchestra under the direction of renowned contemporary violinist Mark Menzies. Marcus has had an extensive and eclectic professional performing career, performing in touring rock bands, contemporary jazz ensembles, jazz big bands, salsa bands, musical pit orchestras, and American folk and country bands. He currently performs around Los Angeles in multiple bands in addition to freelance work. Marcus began teaching private lessons and ensemble coaching in 2010. He has taught ages 6-adult at schools, community centers, and music studios.
