Lirio Hernandez joins YMF as the Community Engagement and Administrative intern. They are currently a student at Cal Poly Pomona as a Music Industry Studies major with an emphasis in Audio Engineering. They reside in occupied Tongva land now known as Los Angeles.

Lirio has worked with various organizations in and out of the Los Angeles area that focus on underserved, marginalized queer, gender-expansive, and Latinx and Black communities such as the House of Blues Music Forward Foundation, Chicxs Rockerxs, and Save the Music Foundation. Lirio graduated from Diversify the Stage’s 2020-2021 mentorship program, where they joined a cohort of women identifying individuals that explored professional development, inclusive hiring practices and greater access to equitable opportunities in live music, events and touring industries. Through the Oaxacan Youth Initiative, they stay rooted in their Oaxacan community by tutoring Oaxacan youth in the Koreatown and Pico Union area of Los Angeles.

Lirio stayed connected with YMF after they attended the Chicano Batman workshops in September 2020 and is excited and passionate about creating accessibility to music education and empowering inner-city youth alongside YMF.
