YMF Drops the Beat at 24th STreet Theatre’s 17th Annual Dia De Los Muertos Festival

November 18, 2022

As YMF continues to transition into our new home at the Florence Mills Apartments in Historic South Central, we remain committed to connecting with community members and other local stakeholders. On November 2nd, YMF’s Admin Community Team set up a table at 24th STreet Theatre’s 17th Annual Dia De Los Muertos Festival, which took place in South Central and invited community to come together and celebrate lost loved ones together in music and festivity. Dia De Muertos or “Day of the Dead” is rooted in ancestral practices from the Aztecs and the Toltecs and is believed to be the day in which a veil is opened making it possible for spirits to return to the mortal world for a brief period and see their loved ones again.

YMF had a great time inviting community members and families to learn how to use music technology on the spot, experimenting with different sounds and beatmaking using online music programs. Kids naturally gravitated to our table to participate, while parents were equally excited to watch their kids and even join along in making music! Best of all, YMF was able to connect with community members and families about ongoing and upcoming community programming available at YMF.

A huge thank you to 24th STreet Theatre for having us, we couldn’t be more thrilled and thankful to have been a part of such a warm and festive event that honored tradition and community. To view more photos from this event, and see more updates from YMF, click here.
