Since 1955, Young Musicians Foundation (YMF) has been empowering underserved students to find creativity, connection, and joy through music. Through partnerships with under-resourced schools and community programs, our accessible and responsive approach to music and media arts instruction reaches students ages 4 to adult across the greater Los Angeles area.

Position Overview
The Community Engagement Coordinator will play a pivotal role in strengthening YMF’s connections with students, families, and community partners to support student recruitment, retention, and program growth. Additionally, this role will support partnership cultivation efforts by representing YMF at community events, building relationships with local organizations and external stakeholders, and identifying opportunities for collaboration and sponsorships.
Hours
Tuesday – Saturday 10:00am-6:30pm, Fridays remote, occasional evenings and weekends outside of regularly scheduled workweek.
Responsibilities
Community Engagement – 50%
- Plan, host, and participate in meetings, town halls, community gatherings, and other related activities.
- Develop and implement student recruitment and retention strategies, including informational sessions, orientation meetings, outreach activities, and strategic engagement efforts.
- Provide logistical and engagement support for performances, internal and external events, and workshops.
- Assist in publicizing and promoting events, programs, and activities, and send timely communications to potential participants and stakeholders.
- Staff YMF information tables at concerts, events, and community activities, overseeing the distribution of promotional materials, surveys, and resources to engage attendees.
- Design and implement feedback systems, such as surveys, focus groups, and listening sessions, to gather input from students, families, and stakeholders to inform program improvements.
- Serve as a point of contact for students and families, providing ongoing support, answering questions, and welcoming visitors to the YMF Center for Music and Creative Technologies.
- Support and facilitate the Parent/Guardian Advisory Council, including organizing meetings, managing communications, and fostering participation in the program.
- Support the onboarding process for new students, teaching artists, and volunteers.
Partnership Cultivation – 50%
- Identify, establish, and nurture partnerships with local residents, schools, businesses, artists, community organizations, and other stakeholders to support YMF’s mission and program goals.
- Represent YMF at external events, community meetings, and cultural activities to promote programs, build relationships, and identify collaboration opportunities.
- Proactively seek sponsorship and partnership opportunities with corporations, arts organizations, and entertainment industry leaders to support programmatic and organizational growth.
- Assist in facilitating on-site visits and events from community partners, program officers, public officials, and other stakeholders.
- Lead asset mapping initiatives to identify resources within and around YMF communities to support program and student needs.
Additional Responsibilities
- Maintain records of community engagement activities, partnership interactions, and student recruitment metrics.
- Collaborate with the administrative team and social media consultant to develop outreach materials and social media content that highlights program impact and opportunities.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
About You
- An outgoing and people-oriented communicator who enjoys meeting new people, and is equally comfortable engaging in one-on-one conversations and addressing large groups.
- Confident in public speaking and skilled at connecting with individuals from diverse backgrounds and perspectives.
- A creative and independent thinker with a background or strong interest in arts and education.
- Committed to YMF’s mission of using arts education to disrupt systemic inequities and foster community healing.
- Familiar with the needs of underserved communities and experienced working in diverse, culturally responsive, and affirming environments.
- Experienced in nonprofit operations, community engagement, external communications, or related fields.
- Possesses strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
- Experienced working in an educational or creative arts facility.
- Proficiency in managing scheduling tools, Google Workspace, and Slack.
- Fluent in Spanish.
