Creative Writing Workshop with WillFlo

Join WillFlo and YMF for an inspiring writing workshop and presentation where you will learn how you can exercise and channel your creativity for poetry, lyric writing, or spoken word. The workshop will introduce writing activities to help you spark new ideas, include a collaborative exercise to help build community with other young writers and creatives, and feature a short performance by WillFlo.

About WillFlo:

WillFlo, as created by William Giovanni Flores Diaz contains the first four letters of his first name and the first three letters of his father’s last name. WillFlo empowers communities through hip-hop-inspired self expression, fostering mutual understanding and healing. His use of language demonstrates the power of the people from South Central Los Angeles and similar communities. WillFlo teaches how self literature is a powerful act of resistance and resilience. It is a way of utilizing a language that had been used to oppress and marginalize to now using it to create a new narrative of empowerment and self-determination.

South Central Los Angeles and similar communities have a rich and vibrant culture that is worth respecting and honoring. WillFlo invites others to learn more about his community and to work together to create a more just and equitable society.

William’s work is an important example of how hip-hop can be used to empower communities and foster mutual understanding while healing. He is a role model for people everywhere, and his music is a powerful force for positive change.
