Brief Organizational Description
The Young Musicians Foundation (YMF) empowers communities to find creativity, connection, and joy by providing access to high quality music education and experiences. Through responsive and strategic programming and partnerships, YMF provides a sustainable solution for music education in neighborhoods that lack the infrastructure to support ongoing arts programming. In addition to bringing tuition-free, weekly music instruction to over 2,500 students at 18 partner schools and sites throughout Los Angeles, YMF also supports onsite community-initiated programming, performances, events, and student scholarship opportunities.
Position Description
The Community Engagement Intern will focus on building a comprehensive calendar and map of events, and identifying other points of intersection with partner organizations in the Los Angeles arts sector, social service providers, and stakeholders in the South LA community. This project will contribute to the organization’s efforts to establish our presence in South LA and provide culturally responsive and relevant programming to the surrounding community from our new campus. The primary project will require the intern to exercise their interpersonal, creative, and administrative skills. Responsibilities may include researching organizations and stakeholders across social media platforms, supporting in scheduling and attending meetings/events with partners, and creating and maintaining our community resources newsletter.

$17.28/hr
This position will primarily take place in-person at our office in Historic South Central with the possibility of some remote hours. This position will work approximately 15-20 hours a week between August 2024 and February 2025 and can be adjusted to accommodate the intern’s school schedule.

Internship Eligibility Requirements
2024 Arts Internship positions will be open to currently enrolled undergraduate (2 or 4-year) and community college students who reside or attend college in Los Angeles County. Recent graduates may apply as long as they have completed their degree between May 1 – December 1, 2024. The Department of Arts and Culture encourages eligible students from all ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds, as well as disabled students, to apply. Eligible students may participate in the program once.
