The lack of trained, professional arts managers and administrators is of
great concern to the classical music world today. For this reason, YMF offers
three paid, on-the-job training positions through its Artist Management Training Program: Orchestra Librarian/Assistant Orchestra
Personnel Manager, a Programs Assistant position, and two (2) summer internships sponsored by the Los Angeles County Arts Commission.

Young Musicians Foundation is looking for two qualified college students to fill the positions of:
Programs Intern
The Programs Intern will work closely with the Executive Director, Programs Director, Director of Develoment, and Foundation’s Administrative Staff in the areas of program maintenance, fundraising and alumni relations. Duties will include: developing and implementing audience-building strategies for the (3) major performing ensembles of YMF; assisting Programs Director with overseeing the foundation’s 15 various youth programs; working with Debut Orchestra staff to plan the auditions and performances for the 54th concert season; collaborating with the Outreach Coordinator to develop youth outreach opportunities; and assist in corresponding with new business contacts in an effort to broaden fundraising opportunities.
Public Relations Intern
The Public Relations Intern will work closely with YMF’s Development Director and Programs Director to create materials that advance the marketing strategy of the foundation, and assist the Office Manager with effectively implementing these activities, such as: collaborating with the Programs Director in the development of YMF’s annual press materials, newsletter and website; soliciting individual and business-based donors for the solicitation of items for the YMF Annual Gala Benefit and Silent Auction; and gathering press kit materials. Duties also include: keeping the foundation’s press/media contacts database up-to-date; maintaining a catalog of YMF’s fund-raising and grant activity; and assisting with alumni relations.
Skills
Successful candidates should be a creative thinker and independent worker. He/she should be able to sustain on-going projects, while effectively completing various tasks that require immediate attention. Young Musicians Foundation is maintained by a small, close staff - the intern should have a dynamic personality and be able to assess situations and offer assistance wherever needed. A musical background is not required but is a plus; likewise, previous work with a nonprofit is not required but some experience in an office setting is preferred. Must be proficient in Word and Excel, website programming and Adobe Creative Suite experience a bonus.
Eligibility
Candidates must not have completed their senior year of undergraduate education. In addition, all applicants must either be attending school in Los Angeles County or have parents who reside within the Los Angeles County limits.
Compensation
Accepted interns will receive $3500, paid bi-weekly from June 1 - August 19. (Actual start/end dates are flexible.)
